FAQ: What is the current state of global warming?

The earth is expected to permanently pass 1.5° C average global surface temperature over pre-industrial levels within the next five years. The year 2024 was the first year that this limit was temporarily exceeded. Each year after that has been on average hotter the the year before. As existing feedback loops intensify and new ones develop, the amount of global warming is expected to increase faster each year.
